Innovations for Teacher Quality

Assistance to former members of the Armed Forces to obtain certification for teaching

Funds available to high need LEA or non-profit that has a proven record in recruiting and retaining highly qualified teachers
Transition to Teaching

Program to recruit highly qualified paraprofessionals or recent graduates through alternative certification

National Writing Project Funds provide training in effective approaches and processes for the teaching of writing Non-competitive for National Writing Project network of regional sites

Subpart 1
Enhancing Education Through Technology Funds support efforts that utilize technology to improve student academic achievement, integration into curricula and instruction, evaluations of impact, and connect schools, teachers and communities Formula to states - approximately 50% passed to school districts through poverty formula, 50% competitive
Title III Language Instruction for Limited English Proficient and Immigrant Students Funds are used for improving and monitoring achievement of Limited English Proficient Students Formula to states; all programs block granted

Subpart 1
Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Anti-drug and prevention programs 80% of funds are allocated to districts by formula; 20% competitively

21 st Century Community Learning Centers

Programs that provide academic enrichment to students who attend low-performing schools Formula to states
Title V – A Innovative Programs Develop and implement educational programs to improve school, student, and teacher performance; support technology activities; develop or acquire assessment, reference materials, software/hardware that is used for improving student performance Formula to states
Title V – B Subpart I Public Charter Schools Provides support for planning, designing, and implementing charter schools Competitive Grant
Title V – D Fund for the Improvement of Education (over 20 programs) Program Examples: CSR-FIE, Character Education School Counseling, Smaller Learning Communities, Reading is Fundamental, Gifted and Talented, and Star Schools Discretionary Grant
Title VI Transferability and Flexibility Option

Districts can transfer up to 50% of funds among the following four Title I programs:

•  Safe & Drug-Free Schools and Communities
   (Title IV–A)
•  Innovative Programs Block Grant (Title V – A)

Title VII – A Native American and Alaskan Education Programs Financial support to reform and improve elementary and secondary programs that serve Indian students and Indian adults Formula to school districts,
tribes, etc.

Special Programs for Indian Children Support for projects to develop, test, and demonstrate the effectiveness of services and programs for Indian children Formula Grant
