Grade 8 Reading

Ellis Middle School in Elgin School District began work with Modern Red SchoolHouse in the fall of 2003. In its partnership with Modern Red SchoolHouse, Ellis Middle School was able to increase the proportion of 8th grade students who "met" or "exceeded standards" in reading from 47 percent in 2002 to 56 percent in 2005--nearly double the state-wide performance gains. The proportion of students in "academic warning" in reading for 8th grade was reduced.

Grade 8 Mathematics

In its partnership with Modern Red SchoolHouse, Ellis Middle School was able to increase the proportion of 8th grade students who "met" or "exceeded standards" in mathematics from 29 percent in 2002 to 42 percent in 2005--an increase of 13 percent. Ellis Middle School's gains passed the state-wide performance, and the proportion of students in "academic warning" in mathematics for 8th grade was reduced.
