Achievement Results in Turkeyfoot Valley, Pennsylvania

Grade 5 Reading

Turkeyfoot Valley School District's one elementary school began work with Modern Red SchoolHouse in the fall of 2003. In the previous spring, 42 percent of their 5th grade students scored "below basic" on Pennsylvania's reading assessment--double the proportion at the state level. By the spring of 2005, 34 percent of their 5th grade students scored "below basic" in reading and the percentage of students scoring "proficient" exceeded the state-wide performance.

Grade 5 Mathematics

Turkeyfoot Valley School District's one elementary school began work with Modern Red SchoolHouse in the fall of 2003. In the previous spring, 50 percent of their 5th grade students scored "below basic" on Pennsylvania's mathematics assessment--double the proportion at the state level. Byt the spring of 2005, only six percent of their 5th grade students scored "below basic" in mathematics, and the percentage of students scoring "proficient" and "advanced" was well above the state-wide performance.
